Do you or someone you know have one or more missing teeth that you would like to have replaced? Missing teeth can hamper your smile, affect your chewing and speaking abilities, as well as dampen your self-esteem. Luckily, Dr. Phillip Greer of Sweetwater Dentistry provides excellent dental care when it comes to replacing missing teeth. Check out our website for more information about us and the services we offer. There are a few different ways that you can replace missing teeth, but this article will give you information about an option called a dental bridge.

A dental bridge is a restorative dental piece that closes the gap when you have one or more missing teeth. A dental bridge is made up of crowns called abutments and pontics that are all connected. The abutments are the crowns that cover the teeth surrounding the missing tooth. The pontics are the crowns that replace the missing tooth itself. Here’s how it works: The teeth in front and behind the tooth that is missing will be ground down a little bit to be foundations for the abutments of the bridge. Once that has been done, an assistant will perform an oral scan, which is how we at Sweetwater Dentistry take digital impressions. This scan allows us to design and fabricate your bridge, usually in-house, depending on the size of the bridge.

If your bridge is a 3-unit bridge, most likely, we will be able to fabricate the bridge in the office, and you will not have to wait for it to come back from the lab. Unfortunately, that is not always the case. If the bridge is a 4-unit bridge, sometimes it will have to be sent to the lab and you will have to wait about a week for the bridge to make it to our office. Once we have your bridge, we will permanently cement it in, and you can once again be proud of your smile. Contact us at Sweetwater Dentistry so that we can help you regain your smile today!
