Fairhope AL Root Canal Dentist

Information about Root Canals

If you are experiencing tooth pain, your teeth are sensitive to hot or cold, or your gums are inflamed and swollen, you may need a dental procedure known as Root Canal Therapy. If you have a deep cavity, it can cause major damage to your tooth. Also, if you have a crack in your tooth, it may result in an infection. If the infection reaches the nerves of the tooth, it can cause severe pain. Getting a root canal helps relieve pain and treat the tooth that has become infected. A root canal may be the best option for you if saving your tooth is your goal.

To many people, hearing “root canal” can be pretty intimidating. However, here at Sweet Water Dentistry in Fairhope, AL, we strive to make sure that every patient is as relaxed and comfortable as possible during the procedure. In the past, root canals took a long time and required a lot of dental appointments. Because of the technological advances in dentistry, most root canals can be completed within a short amount of time.  During a root canal, Dr. Phillip Greer removes the infected nerves, cleans the tooth canals, and then seals each canal. Once the root canal is completed, the tooth and area around it will be scanned and then a brand new porcelain crown will be made in-house. Making the crown takes about one hour. Once the crown is made, it will then be cemented onto your tooth. This can typically all occur within the same day!

If you find out that you need a root canal, it should not be something that you fear. A root canal procedure helps alleviate your dental pain as well as protects your tooth from having to get an extraction. The procedure can be done on the same day and will prevent further damage from occurring to your teeth and bone structures in your mouth. If you have a sensitive tooth, swollen gums, or tooth pain, contact Dr. Phillip Greer of Sweet Water Dentistry, your Fairhope, AL dentist to schedule an appointment.
